Nice photo of the EMS... back in school in the 70's our electronic music studio had an EMS Synthi AKS. They are still very desirable and very expensive.
And just think... had some hand been dealt differently, your band might have been Kansas, and I'd be writing this reply to Steve Walsh.

Well said on the power of synths coming up in those days. It was something to behold.
And I believe its coming again.
I was "that" as well but way before the 80's in an original band that was in synchronicity not unlike Kansas/Supertramp but before Kansas/Supertramp broke, playing long hair rock before 4k people, with a B3/122 and a Wurli 200 through a Leslie 145.
My first synth during that period was an EMS Putney with Cricklewood controller. Put wheels on it and you could be in a Vin Diesel Tokyo Drift scene.
Amps were not invented yet to handle the power of these.

The only clone worth carrying around in those days, (70's) if you could not afford a chop which meant you had to go to California to get one, was the Crumar, if you could find one.
And yeah it was fun!

For better or worse, in 1984 I was that... but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Playing a 110db synth pad in front of over 2,000 people? Well, either you did or you didn't... times change, but I did have fun.
