The tone control on a vintage Hammond is on the preamp I believe and was adjusted with a screwdriver at the time of install. Probably done once in its life. I doubt there was a usual setting other than flat frequency output, it was adjusted for the speaker connected to it and the room it was in. All it could do is attenuate the highs a little.
