Ken, nice job... never thought of emailing the guy and asking him directly.. ;-)
I think the SK sounds great, certainly the organ does (and I've always liked the SK organ) and in an ensemble situation like this you're able to hear a nice sparkle overtop of some nice warm tones, it sounds great.. Just what you want in this situation.. It's not a great demonstration of some of the areas that are a little weak on the SK1 such as the leslie sim and the overdrive, and he didn't mention what he was using for amplification.. is this through a real leslie or the onboard leslie sim, or a ventilator? This makes a big difference.
However it really does sit nicely in the mix and this guy is an extremely tasteful player! The EP's sounded OK, the acoustic piano didn't (my opinion of course)and it was pretty well burried in the mix (probably for that reason).. but there's no doubt that the SK did a great job on the Hammond sounds, and an OK job on the other sounds (the EV's worked for this setting).
Thanks for investigating Ken..
Craig

Well after all of this ongoing speculation, I just thought I would
ask. I sent Eliot a note and got this nice reply:

Hi Ken, thanks for the kind words.
Yeah I'm really enjoying the new SK1 and yes the Shelby Lynn show is all
SK1.
In the past I would sometimes use Logic's Mainstage for additional
sounds but prefer to keep it simple. The Hammond, besides great B3
tones
actually has some really nice pianos and rhodes so I should be able to
just rely on the SK1.
Hey what is the Clonewheel list? is it a forum?
maybe I could learn something lol!
Thanks again,
Eliot

Hello Eliot,
I'm a long time fan going
back to your fine work with AWB and everything since. I've watched Live
from Daryl's house since its inception and it just gets better and
better. The most recent episode with Shelby Lynn marks your first
appearance with a Hammond SK-1. The playing as always is superb, but
there is some discussion on the Clonewheel list as to whether the sounds
on that performance are from the SK-1 or from something else, possibly
running from your Apple laptop. If you'd care to comment I would love to
set the record straight. It sounds like the SK-1 to me ( I have one ). I
hope to hear from you.
Cheers, Ken Hall
I'll reply to Eliot and invite
him to join the Clonewheel group. Hopefully we'll get another great
contributor.
Cheers, Ken
