Subject:Re: Axiom Now A Legacy Product
>>InMusic is arguably doing the same thing that Avid did. In recent years, they have acquired Alesis, Alto Professional, Akai Professional,
and M-Audio (and others). There is certainly some synergy to this process, but I wonder if they, too, will reach a point where they divest
of some of their less profitable (or manageable) lines.
M Audio have claimed that their midi controller line was the biggest controller range in the US. The Gen 2 Axiom (updated from the Axiom) was the newest controller in the M-Audio range - I purchased the one I have about 18 months ago when there were still the Gen 1 versions available in the retail chain.
As far as I could tell it matched the Novation Impluse for features which is a current product. So not sure what InMusic can gain from taking over this part of M-Audio and closing it down, or trashing the brand reputation as they have done in my case. Is InMusic owned by investment bankers who are 'optimising it" before floating it again?
The Akai MPK range only has 8 faders, as does the Alesis QX range so they are not substitutes for the M- Audio range.
When you visit the InMusic M - Audio website they list the M-Audio Axiom 61 Gen 2 as available new now from InMusic so they are obviously trying to clear old stock.
I think it is pretty rich for a company to continue to sell a product new and then claim that it is a legacy product and no parts will be supplied.
>>the parts themselves are likely to be based on a generic design.
Yeah I thought so too and bought some 1/4" D shaft knobs today at an electronics store but it turns out the shaft size is smaller than 1/4". Will go back tomorrow with the board and see if any others in their range will fit.
I don't hold out much hope of hearing back from Avid via the retailer I purchased it from on this one.
