It appears that at this point, Avid has focused on their original
'game,' plus music production software. They have sold off most of
their hardware side.
InMusic is arguably doing the same thing that Avid did. In recent
years, they have acquired Alesis, Alto Professional, Akai Professional,
and M-Audio (and others). There is certainly some synergy to this
process, but I wonder if they, too, will reach a point where they divest
of some of their less profitable (or manageable) lines.
My suggestion of contacting Avid was that since the new owner InMusic
doesn't appear to be providing parts for the older M-Audio line, perhaps
Avid can provide a lead to someone who still might be selling parts. I
doubt that something like a knob would be a fully custom part for
M-Audio: the color might be unique, but the parts themselves are likely
to be based on a generic design.
