I appreciate what Joey D is doing with keeping jazz organ alive. There are not a ton of players out there doing that. Whats great, is that all of us have our own opinions. If you aren't a fan, don't go see him, don't buy his records. Don't trash him though. While he may not "give" anything to you or your ideas of what a great player is, Joey D is making impressions to newer generations that may have never heard jazz organ before and they get into it because of him. Its all a style. Who wants another copycat out there? We can all learn the licks and chord changes and sound just like the others. What sets the good ones apart is when they play who they are. It's why when we hear a organ player playing on an album we can identify the player from the phrases first and sound second.
Just putting my two cents, and my "don't trash him" comment out there! Now its time to practice! :)
PS
He drinks Espresso! Come on, get Italian! (joke-I have no idea)
