I agree, his overplaying gets monotonous to me as well. I much prefer Tony Monaco or Dr. Lonnie Smith in that style of Hammond playing. They seem to hold my interest and I find their playing much more creative. DeFrancisco is obviously a very talented guy but he seems to be "phoning it in" a lot of times and "showboating" at others. He does have those moments when he really shines though and I will never be anywhere close to his degree of talent.

I don't think the point of any of this has to do with Defrancesco's ability to play, or his "courage and insight"... I think it has to do with the fact that some people, myself included, find his style of overplaying to be boring and non-musical. Having said that, there are some things he's done that I like a lot.
I haven't heard anyone trying to tell him what to play or how to play it... we're just expressing our personal opinions about music and playing styles. That should be OK.
