Craig, was just listening to your GEL solo again. You got the soul of of the parts from out of the starting gate, the ending had "the" characteristic tone and distortion that made it believable. Too bad the camera was static, so far away.

Artist techs use the iPhone I've noticed during sound check with the cel's mics calibrated (somehow) and spectrum analyzer apps. There's a lot of potential in that little gadget.

Here's a Kronos clip of the last show I worked on being put through its paces. Not organ though but you get an idea of the range of its capabilities. Low budget prod, the guys came through to party didn't bring a tech crew and showed up an hour before the gig. Dream Theater through a cel phone (not my clip). I was by the mixer during all this pretty much holding up my jaw. I provided the '59 through an RV cab, the Korg rep brought both Kronos boards, the 73 is under the 61. You can tell the fan with the vid cam has no clue what a Hammond is, and basically so most of the audience as well.

G.

Thanks.. it's the same with me.. it was one of those tunes that I said I wanted to learn some day and never got around to it until now.. (see there is hope for all of us that we'll learn all those great tunes some day).. For me, I decided to learn it over the Christmas Holidays.. it's one of those tunes that has to be played fluidly, and that does take some practise to establish the muscle memory! I spent about an hour a day for a week to get this one down properly.. and I'm actually kind of rushing through it on this recording, but that's one of the tricks I use when I rehearse.. I find that if I try to play the passages faster than normal, the muscle memory kicks in faster.. it works for me!?!

The iphone does a surprisingly good job of recording it.. but as you point out it's not quite the same as it sounds in the room.. I think I had the Ventilator on the floor and I kicked the speed switch with my foot..

Craig
