I'll second that the Alesis I/O dock is sweet!!! I picked one up from
Sweetwater around Christmas for $99 with a free carrying case.I think
they're about $149 now.

You might want to look into the Alesis dock.
I have the irig midi and have used it on live gigs with no issues.
The only potential problem is, as always, the tiny 1/8" stereo jack.
You can get around that issue by using the Alesis docking station.
Check it out first. More dough but the outputs are 1/4 I believe and it has
midi built into it.
I've used one but don't remember all the details.
