I have a son your age and he, an architect from a think tank school in LA, notices the same thing as he has an iPhone, he claims he can't keep his hands off of it but is also aware of the social engineering going on. I have another son about your daughter's age, can't keep his face out of his Blackberry but he won't listen about the mind control going on with the device. My architect son laments about the younger generation who were the first to grow up with computers, that all they have is their smart phones as their identity. I guess coming from someone his/your age, that is a valid observation. It is an addiction.
It is an addiction only if you make it so. There is no chemistry involved, only lack of will and moderation.

False. They just don't use their real identity on the web (but on official pages) and don't give their number to everyone. They use those in an intelligent way. ;)

I don't use wifi either as my head hurts when I'm next to a router that has it on. I'm sure there will be more rolling eyeballs..
The negative effect of cellphones/whatever hasn't be proved so far. And would be minimal when confronted to the giant TV/Phone/Radio repeaters that are now everywhere.

Bear in mind, not saying those couldn't be dangerous, only that noone managed to prove or disprove it so far. Also, head hurting could or could not be psychosomatic and there are a lot of things still to be explained about human capacities and perceptions (for example, ever had someone to message/call you exactly when you're thinking or writing him/her?).
