Faster way is probably to use a stereo to 2 mono jack, put the mac's audio to mono and just connect only one of the jacks to the vent.

contrary to popular belief mac s x can output audio in mono, the option is not in the Sound System Preference as one would expect, tough. Look for it in Universal Access.
