Calvin,
To me it's more like a long phase. Some call it a beat. It's subtle and you have to listen closely to hear it. You'll never hear that artifact on a real Leslie/Hammond or a Vent for that matter.
It was most noticeable when using an older Leslie sim/ and often when using an older XK3 with a Leslie. It wasn't the Leslie but the XK3 that made that caused the effect.
I first heard it with a VK7 and one of those little solid state Leslies that had a horn but no bottom rotor. It had a bass speaker with a simulated bottom rotor sound. It was really bad.
Someone explained to me that it's the way that HS sampled the tone wheels. Basically, the way they used to do it was not the way a Hammond does it. Therefore every so many seconds you would hear this phase effect. It has to do with the way real tone wheels create the sound that older clones don't do.
These days you probably won't hear it on the newer HS clones.
I've heard it on Rolands though a Leslie and some other clones.
If you listen very carefully you'll hear it on the VB3 but it's so slight it's not important and doesn't detract from the sound.
Bottom line is it's always found in the clone and not a real Leslie cabinet if you use one.
I use a Nord E3/C2 either into a real Leslie or the Vent and have never heard it.
I noticed it with the VB3 through a Vent.
I also run a B3 through the Vent and it's not there.
It drives me nuts when I hear it and maybe some other folks don't hear it or don't care.
