It's a long shot however it could be worth to mention the possibility…

I have three email accounts, my mail clients are configured to handle all three of them so there is no difference when writing from any of those, however I occasionally forget what account I used to subscribe a group and use the wrong one (happens mostly with new topics, in replies the mail client handle the thing automatically), some groups bounce back my mail when this happens, other doesn't…Perhaps something similar happened to you?
