I have done this with both a Leslie 825 and 130 but constructed a separate top unit for both. That way I have 2 lighter pieces to carry rather than one heavier one and can always remove the top to sell either Leslie as original stock. Either way if you seal the bass section as much as possible, line with damping like lambs wool or that pillow stuffing stuff or even add a bass port you should get some good bass. Adding a 15" would help as well IMHO. My 130's bass with the stock 12" speaker and all the additions mentioned has my wife complaining that it shakes the whole house....success!

Subject: [CWSG] OT: Leslie project
Hey all,
Sorry for such an off-topic post, but so many of you Cloners are also real Hammond and Leslie enthusiasts, I couldn't resist trying to tap some knowledge. There are a couple of Leslie 25s on Craigslist here, and I'm thinking of buying one (pretty cheap), and adding some parts from a 715 Leslie I have that I've decided not to keep to make a miniature Leslie to haul around for gigs where I don't have a lot of space. I know, I know, my Mojo with a powered speaker sounds pretty darn good, but in a REALLY small room, with not much of a volume demand, it would be nice to move some air.
My plan is to add an upper rotor, and 2 two-speed motors from the 715, and an old regular Leslie crossover that I have sitting around. My questions are mainly about the bass section. If I cut down the size of the middle section to put in a shelf with upper rotor, how much will that affect the bass tuning of the box? Also, is it feasible to put a 15" speaker in place of the 12" one in the 25? I could pull that from the 715 also. What I'm thinking about is a project similar to this one:http://www.cyrguitars.com/AnotherLeslieProject.html
I'd welcome your thoughts, ideas, opinions.....
Randy
