It's a crying shame, isn't it. You can play with just about any guitar or bass or drums out there at your local GC, but go to their keyboard department and it's like being at an antiques store. Same old predictable collection of Yamaha and Roland EPs, five year old keyboards, and far too many cheap controllers. I haven't seen a Hammond XK model there in years. The only Nord I ever saw was one lonely Stage. No Roland VR-09.

I live more than 200 miles away from NYC, so Sam Ash is out of the question. If you want to buy any keyboard other than something outdated or MOR, it' a total leap of faith. And it won't get better.
