Subject:Re: EV ZLX 12P

To be clear, I actually did criticize these for their build quality on another forum.

Compared to the SXA360's that I used to own (again, may be the worse equipment sales mistake I ever made, ranking right up there with selling my clavinet and mini Moog), the new EVs are lighter, and thinner. Especially the tops. For some reason, EV decided to use a thin plastic angled lid on these. Not only does this make it impossible to stack another speaker on top, It easily scuffs. So if you like to keep your equipment pristine, you may be in for a challenge.

Another unfortunate design decision is the length of the one dial on the back. It looks as if it could become damaged if you lie the speakers on their back. So I just avoid doing this when I pack my car.

Other than these two things, I really love these speakers. I have gigged with only one and found no issues with enough SPLs. My friend, Austin, sold his k10, bought one EV, and pocketed over $200. He plays more often than I and I have heard no complaints from him either.

Again, the bottom line for me is sound. These baby's sound great for AP and my vb3. Tons of low end (you do not need a subwoofer unless you wish to drive everyone to the toilets). And they pass the SPL test by not becoming too midrangy when pushed (like the QSC's tend to react).

I have heard that you can buy a ZLX 12 for as low as $319. I paid $330 for mine. To me its a no brainer. Believe me, if they were crap I would tell you.

Finally, sad to say the scent of weed has finally left the speakers. Reminded me of my high school dayz.... Oh well..
