Rock et al,
As former moderator, let me explain how the system works:
1. The moderators get an email just like everyone else, generally 5-30
minutes after posting. By that time, it's already on its way to the
world.
2. Yahoo doesn't have an option to send emails early to the moderators
for preview (except #4, below).
3. There is no option to pre-filter email by content.
4. Members can be moderated -- i.e., the moderators must approve EVERY
email before it shows up on the list -- but it's impractical to
moderate 2,000+ members. If we did, posts wouldn't show up for
hours, occasionally for days. So, once a member becomes trusted,
the assumption has to be that he/she will remain trustworthy.
That's the entire situation, including options. If you think there
should be a better way, send a request to the Yahoo Groups Help Desk --
oh, wait: Yahoo removed the help desk many years ago! :-( IMHO, Yahoo
Groups is a terrible interface for an active group of this size. But
most members prefer this forum to a BBS, and there aren't any other options.
I think that the moderators are doing a fine job: we only saw one
auto-response email. It could have been MUCH worse.
Regards,
