Subject:Re: VK-8 with hum/buzz

Walter, first thing I would ask is "what has changed".. have you changed something in the way the VK-8 is set up.. when did this noise start..  did it start after a gig, or did you just turn it on this morning and all of a sudden it's bad, or has it been getting gradually worse.. has it started ever since you plugged another device into the same outlet.. have you just connected it to a computer for the first time.. is this a new amp??

I could probably make a more educated guess if I better understood how/when this problem started.

If it's been getting gradually worse it's probably a bad component in the VK-8..  but if not it could be a number of things.. It could be a ground loop, bad power, bad cable, etc.. Try changing cables, plugging into a different outlet, isolate the grounds of both units.. because you describe it as a hum/buzz it could be 60 cycle hum (bad power) or simply a bad audio cable.. have you tried jiggling the audio cables to see if it get's better or worse.. or starts to crackle? That would point to audio cables.

Possible power supply problem or bad internal ground.

Subject: [CWSG] VK-8 with hum/buzz

I've owned this board for 6 or seven years. I bought it as B-stock and as
far as I can tell it's always had this problem. The problem being that there
is a low level buzz/hum that is NOT affected by the volume control on the
"organ" but IS affected by the amp it is plugged into.
I'm sure it is not the cable connecting the VK-8 to the amp/ PA. I've
substituted many. It does seem now that the hum is louder than before and
cannot be controlled any better than before.
Does anyone have any insight to this? Any and all suggestions welcome.
When playing, it's not that bad, but when not playing the noise is a
nuisense.
TIA
Walter
