JJmcs49,

I was hoping that you would chime in here,  given your knowledge of the hammond line.

I've seen forum members suggest that that the XK1 sound equals the XK3c sound on several occasions (obviously because they share the same VASE III engine), but from my perspective it's really not true, and thank you for the additional detail that you have provided. The other thing that wasn't mentioned, that will have a significant impact on the sound, is the fact that the XK1, like the XK3, does not allow for independent C/V on different manuals (JJmcs correct me but I'm pretty sure that's the case).

So, for the record the list of significant sound differences between the XK-1 and the XK3c would be the following features, that are exclusive to the XK3c:

- improved digital leslie sim
- improved reverb
- tube output stage
- B-2 type tonewheel set (more natural tone)
- the ability to turn C/V on/off independently on upper and lower manuals

That said, obviously there is a similarity in the sound, and I can understand why some might think the XK1 and XK3c sound similar, but there are in fact significant improvements between the XK1 and XK3c that significantly improve the sound. Last but not least the XK3c's quite a bit more tweakable which means the you are better able to get THE sound that you're looking for.

The XK-1 is a couple of years newer than the XK-3 and although they share the same sound engine the XK-1 benefits from improvements in computing and DSP power and speed. The digital Leslie is the main improvement. The XK-3c actually has a newer (and improved) sound engine in addition to further improvements in computing and DSP power and speed. The newer B-Type2 tonewheels sound more natural (for lack of a better term IMO) and the things produced/affected via DSP - C/V and digital Leslie as well as reverb are much improved.

The XK-1 sounds more like an XK-3 than an XK-3c. They all sound great.
