Subject:Re: Kurzweil KB3?
Tony have you heard the most recent Kurzweil update? KB3 mode has been improved.. It's certainly not up to the standards of todays best dedicated clones, but that's not why I mentioned that in my earlier post. My suggestion that the OP consider the Kronos or Kurzweil, is because I believe that their organ modes/engines are BETTER than the sampled Motif organs that I have heard.
With my Kronos I have have equal (or arguably better), EP's and acoustic pianos etc. than the Motif has, and I can layer these sounds with the Kronos drawbar organ mode. I have a reasonably good sounding organ, 9 sliders for drawbars, buttons assigned to C/V and percussion on/off, AND I have the ability to route the audio output of the organ tones to separate output and run it through my Ventilator and turn the OK sounding CX3 engine into a great sounding organ.. I believe the same is true with the Kurzweil workstations but for less money. There is no question that, as you point out, KB3 mode (despite being recently updated) is still one of the weaker Hammond/leslie emulations, but I tossed that out there for those list members who might not have the budget for a higher end workstation.
Because of the CX3 engine in the Kronos, I would take a Kronos over a Motif any day.. similarly if I was on a tight budget I would take a Kurzweil workstation with KB3 mode over a Yamaha MOX workstation for the same reason.
