Also I would think those effects could be turned off on the Fender amp for just "straight" amplification. That is the only way a valid comparison could be made using that amp between the VK7 and Vent sims.

Allan/Dave,

I don't know much about this Fender SFX amp, but I couldn't believe that someone would listen to a VK7 through it's own internal sim, compare it to a ventilator, and suggest that the ventilator did not impress them (unless they were hearing impaired, no offense Allan)

So the first thing I did to try to solve this little mystery was to go and find out about this Fender SFX amp that you were listening to the ventilator through.. Well I loaded up the manual and the first thing I see is that the SFX stands for Stereo Field Expansion... WHAT...? WTF is Stereo Field Expansion..? Well here's what they say...

"Fender's Stereo Field eXpansion circuitry (patent
pending) processes the signal through one of 32 available
stereo digital effects. The stereo signal is then processed
by the exclusive SFX matrix circuit and sent to the speakers
creating a psychoacoustic event that results in up to 300º
of stereo imaging." (for the record it has forward and side radiating speakers that help to create this emphasized stereo effect).

So Allan what I think you've done is listen to the Ventilator, a high end digital effect that almost perfectly simulates the stereo sound of a leslie, and you've listened to it through an amp who's basic design distorts the stereo field. It may well be that your 15 year old VK7 sim sounds better through this SFX amp, AND at the same time the stereo emphasis completely ruins the Ventilator's (almost perfect) leslie effect.

I would strongly suggest that you give give the Ventilator a listen through an amp or monitor who's function and design is not based on modifying or emphasizing the stereo field.. THEN you'll probably hear what the Ventilator really sounds like. It's AWSOME!!!
