Subject:Further review of the Casio XP1

Hi boys & girls,

I posted several weeks back that I had taken the Casio XP1 out for a short spin and I had some reservations back then. I recently tried it out once again at different music store here in Ottawa, but this time around I had the opportunity to try it out a little longer. Since this is a Clonewheel forum I will talk about the Hammond B3 patches and the leslie sim first. Guido you have absolutely nothing to fear I won't use the word "sucks" but it is pretty close. There was nothing I heard that remotely felt or sounded like our revered B3 or VB3. The leslie sim was dare I say "horrible" sounded very squirrely at the fast rotor speed. The other sounds like pianos, electric pianos, clavs, strings etc. were middle of the road nothing exceptional here. To give Casio it's dues the Hex Layer synth was rich and complex and it sounded great so they something right on this board. For the majority of us who play classic rock, blues, jazz, or soul music this keyboard leaves a lot to be desired. The price and portability are really great features but I guess in the end you get what you pay for. There was a fair amount of hype concerning this keyboard but to this player there was hype and not much to back it up.

Have a great day!
