Subject:Re: Peavey Musebox Anyone have any experience?

Interesting box. The EPs sound promising (but not perfect). I'm not so
sure about the organ, based solely on that demo: kinda sounds like your
average Yamaha/Casio organ patches; certainly, no VB3-class instrument.
The strings are excellent. The built-in graphical editor is a nice
addition.

Overall, though, not quite what I expected -- i.e., a 'poor man's
Receptor.' It's a "closed platform" (their words), so it doesn't play
any old VSTi/VST, just the ones they pre-programmed in it. Forget about
loading VB3, or even SampleTank. So while this box takes a different
road to get there, the end result isn't any different than a good
ROMpler like the Motif or Phantom X. And yeah, the lag time between
sounds is kind of a bummer. (I used to get ticked at the 2-3 sec. it
took the V-Machine to load, but this seems even slower.) At $1K (US
street), there are a lot of alternatives to get the same palette of tones.

Zzounds and SameDay already have them 'warehouse resealed,' which isn't
a great recommendation on such a new product.
