Subject:Re: Sormorock - A Whiter Shade of Pale - Live in the studio - something's not right?

Yes that's definately a Crumar Mojo (despite the logo being covered up by a piece of paper) and it sounds fantastic..! VERY authentic sounding!!!  However,  something seems a little odd in the video, and it got me wondering if we were hearing a real leslie or the internal sim??

At 4:59 I clearly see a the internal Mojo leslie sim  on chorale (only the left button stop/run light is on) but I hear the leslie in tremolo mode...? this intitally led me to believe that the Mojo was being played through an external real leslie.. However, at the very end, at 6:49, I can clearly see the tremolo (slow/fast) light coming on and it corresponds perfectly to the leslie sim ramping up... so there's a bit of an inconsistency in the video.  However, this could be entirely due to the way the video is edited because at 4:59 you really can't see for certain what notes are being played. So the 4:59 video clip might be from another point in the song..

Perhaps the OP can confirm if this was the Mojo through it's internal sim, or an external leslie... and maybe provide a bit more info regarding how it was recorded..direct in vs miced through and amp, what effects/EQ were used to get this authentic sound (I see the drawbar setting is the classic WSOP setting).. thanks!

Great tune guys..  nice job!!

Norm, I get what you're saying about Hammond Organ being a "style and sound"..  however, personally I don't declare myself to be playing a hammond unless it's a real hammond.. I generally just say "organ" or as I did on my 11STEPS CD it's just "Craig MacDonald - Keyboards".. but that's just me.. Wondering what the other folks on the list think about this.. ??  Is using  "Hammond Organ" when you're playing a clone committing fraud?  ;-)

Regards,
Craig MacDonald
