Subject:OT-Theater Organ
I realize this is way off topic, but I wanted to share something that caught me completely off guard.
For years I've passed on any theater organ settings on any keyboard I've had. Just had absolutely NO INTEREST in them whatsoever. I've always been persuing "THE HAMMOND SOUND". Theater organ was always just the wrong direction for my jones.
Today I had the opportunity to experience an actual theater organ. This gentlemen in Racine,Wis. pulled a 5 manual Wurlitzer Pipe organ out of a theater in Detroit, back in 1956. He lives on a bluff on Lake Michigan and dug down 2 stories down into the bluff to build a 100 seat theater in his house. He's rescued different items from theaters all around the country and has made a theater complete with life size cherubs playing flutes and a silent movie projector room along with a balcony and seating and tons of artifacs. He's getting up in years, so, only 4 times a year puts on a productionand today was the original Phantom of the Opera silent movie and he had a gentlemen from the Dairyland Organ Society playing to the movie.
What an absolute treat! This was my first experience hearing/watching a silent film along with organ music. Truly a magical experience in this world of Milli Vanilli originality. For 2 hours, we were taken back to a place in time, unlike anything I've ever experienced. Amazing what sounds can come out of an instrument that is close to 100 years old. It was like listening to a full orchestra. Just wonderful!
If any of you ever get the chance, you're in for an incredible treat.
Bill
