Subject:Re: OT ANTIVIRUS too often malicious warnings

Thanks Mark,

Actually appreciate your tip.

Had forgot Kaspersky !

I'll consider again.

And don't know if was a OT topic but if so then think that it's OT and receive anybody apologies .

Let me say that curiously it's an issue that by digest length only  happened in my case with CWSG and hammond_zone lists.

btw, just asked if anybody experienced troubles with CWSG viewing
as as I'had written about,

First thought was an issue with YahooGroups related stuff not a client-side

Found my fav Yahoogroups lists an appropiate place to ask for.

About changing of platform suggestions I decline that,.
Have 30 years on PCs and it's fine for me, I can do everything with Windows , Ubuntu and Debian tha come with Intel inside either and also with the option of faster and cheaper AMD microprocessors.

Computers for wer musicians isn't matter of brands  but of features otherwise will flee to Linux OpenSource.

Sometimes we need use a hammer and sometimes a screwdriver, different purposes. Doesn't exist an universal tool like those t-shirt where "one size fits all"

Nevertheless by sale client computing  the universal client isn't OSX nor Linux. Everybody knows which is the top-seller don't need more advertising

That are facts , not religiousity about any platform in particular and all of them can coexist in peace.

Personally have to stay with the VST roadmap by need as VST doesn't work on any Linux workstation I tried it.

Thanks a very kind person member of CWSG  knew that even a Win-laptop can be used with OSX  so better for the users despite that isn't clear if a "Hackintosh " is fully tolerated by the brand owners headquartered in Cupertino,CA

All the best,

Rafael

Rafael,

I have Symantec SEP on my machines (corporate version of Nortons). I recently got a worm on one machine that hi-jacked my browsers and pushed very google link to a rapid succession of pay per click sites. My research indicated that I had recent mutation of worm that had been around for 3 or 4 years. The were tips on how to remove it but this involved system level editing of core Windows dll's.  I found a utility that Kaspersky had released that automated the process and had cleaned the machine and fixed it inside the 2 hours it took Symantecs engineers in SF to call me back after logging the issue via their corporate "Gold" level support service.

Rather embarrasing call for Symantec, I had traced the infection to a specific file that I had downloaded that was spoof of the legitimate file I thought I was downloading and immediately deleted it, Symantec requested a copy of the payload so they could update their signature file which I said I would have to download again and I was not prepared to take the risk  as Symantec did not recognise its signature.  I asked why it was not recognised by SEP as there were web reports of this mutation's existence going back 6 months and suggested they note that the problem was solved by the Kaspersky utility and to refer to Kaspersky's website for further information.

Based on this experience as you would already know not to use Symnatec/Nortons I would suggest Kaspersky. (they also happen to the main sponser of the NRL team I support!!)

Cheers

Mark Â
