As both a keyboard player and engineer I can tell you I don't think most keyboard players are primadonnas
(at least not any more that other musicians and sound engineers! :)). But the best scenario is an engineer
that is familiar with the band's music. In this case I would want the keyboard balance done at FOH as the mix
the keyboardist hears is generally EQ'd much differently and only FOH hears how it really sits in the mix. The
player still has control of his mix via expression pedals and knobs but sometimes it needs to be touched up
out front. You really can't properly EQ multiple keyboards without being out front. It really depends on how
much you trust your engineer and the level of his experience. As a keyboard player I pay a lot of attention to
how the keyboards sit in the mix with everything else. This does not infer any lack of trust by me of the keyboard
players "ears" but I am in the position to hear what the audience hears and it is my job to make it sound good.
When I was playing we has certain FOH guys that I trusted and even thought I had an onstage mixer I sent direct
sends (sometimes stereo) from each keyboard. When some tells be they want a single mono send from their keyboards
I explain their options but if that is the way they want it I figure it's their show and just do what they want. In larger
venues this is how it's done. In the smaller bar circuits you may need to conserve channels due to the capacity of the console.

Anyone here a member of a sound tech forum? I bet its hilarious what they have to say about keyboard players....("F***'n primadonna know-it-all keyboard playerz!....)

That's exactly what I told our sound tech. I trust my ears for blending synth and piano better than his.
