Subject:Steve Hayes/Leslies

I had started an email on Friday re: Steve that I never finished, so
I'll combine that with today's note:

I still gig with a Leslie, thanks to Steve Hayes. I had him build me a
preamp that would power my two 145s back when he first started shipping
his preamp pedal, and it's still going as strong as the day I got it. A
bit beat up from the constant use, but it hasn't skipped a beat. I
thought of him this weekend when I gigged through my road 145. I'm
shocked he's gone, I've always admired his work for us and his quest for
the tone we desire since - as has been said - not a lot of people care
about that niche anymore, at least not exclusively. I've got a
Ventilator that is still an amazing sound, but there's something about
the Leslie that I can't escape, so it's back in service again. I carry
the Vent always as backup, but if time and space allow I'll be up there
playing my Nord Stage 2 through a Speakeasy preamp into my 145.
