Oh man.
Steve and I have had a close and personal phone relationship ever since I purchased my first Speakeasy preamp back in the late 90s.
I would spend many hours chatting with him and getting to know him as best one could without ever meeting him in person. Years ago, during one of our conversations I began to sense that Steve was ill and when pressed, he told me that he had lung cancer and asked me not to share that with the general public. I kept my promise and from then on our relationship grew even more intimate as he shared his experiences during that phase of his life. I will never forget his generosity and willingness to assist me in any way possible,even sending send me gear on occasions to try out before committing to a purchase just to ensure that what I was getting would meet my high standards of that oh so elusive clonewheel tone. There will only be one Steve Hayes in my book. I will miss him dearly.
