An audience helps, too. Because it reminds you that they are light-years away from being even remotely aware of the minutiae that you are obsessing over. In fact, they might be unaware of you, period. Ever have a 'layman' come up to you and say "Hey, I saw a great band last night!" And you say, "Cool - did they have a keyboard player?" And they furrow their brow, scratch their head, think hard and say, "I think so. . . No, maybe not. . . Hmm. . . not sure, but they kicked ass!"
