Actually, it's no more illegal for me as a studio owner to do it than anyone else. I just have a better chance of being made an example of than a single band posting some live recordings on reverbnation would. The copyright laws, especially the electronic parts are so nebulous I'm not sure anyone understands them. If they decided to come after me I would have to make my own case for every band that ever came through the studio and did a cover song. I'd win the case, but it would be expensive, and time consuming. They do check out things like myspace, reverbnation, and youtube. However sendspace isn't accessable without a link, no search engine has access. I know we'd like to think otherwise, but they're not combing clonewheel digest for copyright violations. Chances are nobody is going to bother with a band doing self promotion either, and if they do it'll just be a case of asking them to pull the songs down. But a commercial studio is a different animal.I'm probably being a little paranoid but better safe than sorry. There are some horror stories out there amongst us studio owners.
