It ain't normal, check it for something stuck where the rotor bottom meets the cabinet (or almost meets it more properly), I had a scraping noise on mine the other day when I got to the gig, and it turned out when it traveled to the gig, leaves were in the back of the pickup truck, and an old dried one got stuck and was scraping. It was loud for the tiny piece it was, so sometimes little things can sound like big things.
