Subject:Re: OT?? Another funny Craigslist ad - B3 and 122 ??
Winter Garden is a city in FL, so it's not being sold by a place, but
probably by the owner (if it's real). The more I look at the ad, the
more 'scam' (or at least, 'joke') starts screaming out:
* If one knows very little about Hammonds, why is it called a
"Leslie" and not a "spinning speaker" or something? Or at least,
"matching amplifier" or something like that? Very few people
outside the music community (and spouses or GF/BF) have any idea
what 'a Leslie' is.
* Why count and note the number of percussion switches, then lump
the remaining 3 rockers + a knob into "vibrates and chorus"? And
for that matter, why count the switches, and then say there are
"24 or 25" pedals?
* If the Leslie has the metal S/N tag, it's not hard to find the
model. If the tag is missing or messed up, it's more difficult to
tell for certain. Certainly, someone who knows nothing about them
would be hard pressed to know where else to look. So, where does
the guess of "122" come from?
* People who sell their grandfather's organ, or pick one up at a
yard sale, rarely ask the accurate book value of $5K for a B3 and
122. They usually ask outlandish numbers ($15K) or just want it
to move ($500). If the owner knows someone who understands the
value, then he/she also probably knows the other details, too.
But I could be wrong. Remember: "Pictures, or it doesn't exist" ...
