The old jazz organists like Jimmy Smith used a special technique to play bass, by stomping the pedal very short at the beginning of the bass note while holding the note with the left hand. It requires a bit training to get it right. If you do it sounds very much like a string bass. When I play pedal I normally just use the synthbass option on my Nord C2; it is a lot easier :-).

No, probably my fault: forgot to emphasize the fact that so far I've always used the standard VB3 1.4 pedalboard bass sound (just the first drawbar) or some combination of 848 on the lower manual.
Trying a different bass sound, using the Mojo as a midi controller, will be my next step.

Currently while rehearsing I send the highs to an OK set of speakers and the lows to a bass amp using a mixer. While the solution isn't perfect (the filter doesn't filter everything and the bass amp emphasize the highs too much) it's OK for rehearsals and the bass sound doesn't seem to be too far from the one I usually get from my own PA.
The idea of bringing in my PA to see how it goes is something I've been thinking for some time: while OK for rehearsal purposes that setup really isn't the best one…Moreover, my bandmates have been complimenting my Hammond sound since day one and they still doesn't know how it really sound.

Side note: tonight I've also tried the split mode with VB3CE2…I'm afraid the tone of the pedalboard (generator nr 19) is too nasal for my taste, really couldn't cope with it.

Audio samples could be a good idea: most of our rehearsals are recorded…Will look into it.
