Subject:Re: [CWSG]now: Clonewheel as Vent Rival?
Hi,
The main problem with the VK-7 sound is the shrill high end and the lack of body in the upper mid octaves (3&4)
I just want to weigh in. I've been using a VK-7 as my primary rehearsal space/gigging KB (plus an 88 casi privia for piano etc.) for some years now.
The VK-7 is ok, but not great, and even though I have a Hammond CV with added percussion and a 145 Leslie...and recently a VB3 rig in the works, which both sound WAY better then the VK-7, the VK-7 rig is just easier right now to move and use. So it's a trade-off, but for sound and a great feeling KB action, the CV wins (of course). When I get comfortable with the VB3 rig, it will take the place of the VK-7 for gigging and rehearsal for all around sound and portability.
The thing that would really make the VB3 shine would be REAL Hammond manuals (both) and switches. Someone here made a single manual like this and it looked great. My VB3 rig does have 2 manuals (Axiom 61 + a simple 1 channel midi slave KB) but no practical way to control the lower darawbars (yet?) but it's great having a lower manual. My lower manual, BTW switches to other midi modules Piano, synth (via hard wire switches in the midi output cable)
Cheers,
Rock
