Rephrasing this question: Can I have VB3 loaded in Cantabile with a specific VB3 program selected (e.g. Deep Rock) and ready to play when the PC3 is switched to midi controller mode?

>> I'm still not clear on how terms like "song", "session" and "set list" are defined in Cantabile.

When you open Cantabile on your PC it loads a "Session".  The first time you use Cantabile the Session will be blank.

"Sessions' contain "Racks".

VST's instruments or effects are loaded into "Racks". Each "Rack" can contain one or more VST.

I guess you have already loaded VB3 in a Rack which if it is the only Rack will be named Rack 1.

In Rack 1 reading from left to right will be "Plugin" and "Program"

VB3 will appear under "Plugin" and "Deep Rock" under "Program".

If "Deep Rock' does not appear under 'Program" then open VB3 by selecting "Edit" (to the right of Program in the rack) to open VB3, scroll in the top program box to Deep Rock and select it. On the same VB3 screen under the "file" pull down menu select "Save Program". This saves the VB3 settings as those selected at the time you save them.

Then click on the Cantabile icon at the very top left of the screen.and select "Save" . This will save the Session state with all changes.

Next time you open Cantabile it will open in the last saved state which will be this session with VB3 active and the Deep Rock program selected.

This will continue to be the case until the next time you Save with different VST's or programs selected.

"Set Lists" and "Songs"

If you are using multiple VST's the "Set List" function allows you to set up multiple "Songs" in each Set List.

Songs can contain multiple "Racks" and the Racks can be from different "Sessions"

So if you are using Cantabile in a live setting and are in multiple bands you can have a Set List for Band A with this set list containing 30 "Songs" and each of these Songs can have their own active rack or racks.  For Band B you could have another "Set List" containing 40 different "Songs" each with their own Rack active.

"Setlists" allow you to have you VST'sorganised for each Song rather than having to remember which VST or combination (layered etc) goes with which Song.

The important concept to grasp is that you have to set up your Sessions and Racks with all the options you wish to use in a "Song" in any "Setlist".first.  "Songs' in 'Setlists" can only be created from existing racks or combinations thereof.

"Sub-sessions" expedite this process and allow combinations of racks with VST's triggered from a 'suspended" state rather than having to be loaded from scratch each time they are selected.

In you previous post you asked if it was possible to change VB3 programs without using a mouse on the laptop. The only option is to program buttons on the PC3 to control Cantabile. If you do not want to that then you will have to use a mouse or cursor keys on the laptop to move between Racks or programs for each VST in a Rack in Cantabile.
