Subject:Kronos CX-3 Engine

Korg just posted a video of a Jordan Rudess workshop event from March 12
at the Manhattan, NY Guitar Center. Jordan makes much more musical
sense in his playing in this one than most of the stuff of his I've
seen, which generally seems more to me like listening to Hanon and
Czerny exercises than actual musical expression. Or, perhaps my ears
have just gotten a bit faster of late.

Personal bias aside, the video is about an hour and a half long and well
worth taking in if you have that much time to spare but, if not, there
is a 3-minute section toward the end, from about 1:26:00 - 1:29:00,
which showcases the Kronos' CX-3 engine. Here's the link to the video,
on the YouTube Korg Channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n88ABqccErI
.

Listen a bit past the 1:29 point and you'll hear some of those excellent
strings and other orchestral sounds...in fact, you'll find them
sporadically throughout his presentation. The "German Grand Piano"
(wink...nudge...can you say "Steinway?") is much earlier on and he plays
virtually all of the other engines at one point or another in this
"music-minus-one" style presentation, which features some tunes
sequenced on Kronos as well as many tracks in which he plays what he
believes to be the most important keyboard parts live throughout, a few
from his band Dream Theatre. There's also a pretty interesting piano
concerto of sorts, of his own composition.

Anyway, I thought some of you may find this interesting...and some will
find Rudess' execution downright amazing...I know I did. Nice Kronos
demo either way, along with some excellent performance and fairly good
explanation of some of the machine's immense capabilities.

Best,
Fox
