You might need to go to the preferences section of your computer, go to sound or audio then move the computer ouput audio all the way up. When I use the headphone out on my Mac I have to do that then I have plenty of volume. When using the laptop Mac I use Mainstage and I have plenty of volume. Remember to set the input mic volume to 0.

I have been using a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 in my live virtual instrument
setup. Today, I decided to experiment with just coming out of the Macbook
Pro's headphone output, going into a Whirlwind pcDI computer/stereo line
interface and then into my Ashly line mixer. Even with the 20dB pad on the
pcDI turned off, the signal coming into my mixer is so low that I had to
turn the channels to 10 just to get the mixer's output VU LEDs to flicker at
­12dB. I have adjusted the individual levels in Mainstage's mixer and have
the output of VB3 set to +6dB.I know more than a few of you are using the
headphone outputs on their laptops eschewing using a computer audio
interface.
My question is this ­ are any of you experiencing wimpy signal levels and
how are you dealing with it?
