Subject:OT but important - Donald "Duck" Dunn R.I.P.

Simon Beck writes:

Seminal R&B/soul bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn, famous for his solid Fender Precision Bass riffs with the Mar-Keys, Booker T and the MGs and the Blues Brothers has died aged 70.

Although not a founder-member of the MGs (he took over from "Green Onions" player Lewie Steinberg after the band's first hit), he was responsible for many of Stax records' most famous bass lines, such as "Time Is Tight", "In the Midnight Hour" and "Soul Man". He also worked as a prolific sideman for the likes of Eric Clapton and was an important member of the Blues Brothers Band. It could be said that the entire genre of Southern Soul is rooted in his inspired bass riffs, and his influence lives on in the music of blues, rock and soul artists worldwide.
