sorry for confusion I did - my English is not so good, and sentences
after my mentioning VL and VP belong to this, not to the Prophecy, of
course Prophecy was primarily for analog emulation. I thought it's
clear.

Thanks to my former cooperation with Yamaha I know that they were
connected with Korg somehow and shared some patents with them. When
Yamaha bought SCI and got rights for Vector Synthesis, they did their
own improved version - Dynamic Vector Synthesizers (SY22, 35 and TG33)
and passed the knowledge to Korg - the result was WaveStation
synthesizer with its own version of Advanced Vector Synthesis and Wave
Sequencing.
The same with physical modeling - after VL and VP series Korg offered
Prophecy and the first Oasys prototype, and Oasys PCI card with
physical modeling (I'm very happy owner). That's the reason for my
opinion that Prophecy and Oasys PCI acoustic models are not so good as
VL1 - Yamaha didn't allow such competition.

When you mention "VL and AN engines", do you mean it in the sense
Yamaha did use this term in EX5, EX7, VL70m and plug-in cards? Then I
must agree their sound quality is worse than original VL1/7 and AN1x.
And VL engine has only one voice, AN engine two voices.

Besides EX5 has weak CPU and very often can't play some DSP demanding
sounds together in Multimode. You are right, keyboard sounds are good,
but even Hammond sounds in Performance mode have long latency - try
very fast glissando through more octaves, there's 1 second delay...

EX5 FM sounds are in fact based on samples. For real FM sounds I use
SY99, DX7, DX7 II, TX802, TX81z, TX816, TX416, WT11, FS1r and DX
plugin cards.

I don't think I was brainwashed, I always criticized (even in my
reviews published in music magazines) weak points of instruments, and
when Yamaha somehow changed their strategy in the field of
synthesizers after 2000, I was unsatisfied with them and finished my
cooperation. Korg and Roland began to offer more interesting
instruments those times.

I do the same as you concerning different tasks for different
instruments in my rather huge collection of hardware instruments and
using their strong points. I play WX5 as well :-)

I have tested Z1 shortly after its coming to market, wrote review, and
later owned Karma with MOSS card. Until now I remember its acoustic
guitar emulations were excellent when played with appropriate
stylistics and voicing.

My explanation why Yamaha didn't make organ clone:
- they produce organ with Hammond section - Electone, but only for
Asian market
- they have modeled Hammond engine in some top keyboards - PSR9000,
9000 Pro, Tyros
- they don't want to enter this competition with so many producers,
they concentrated mainly on arranger keyboards and digital pianos, and
only few models of synthesizers
- it seems they limited very much their own research, in the past they
have invented a lot and brought many innovations, but after 2000
nothing special

Let's enjoy our toys! I still hope to find Z1 one day and buy...
