Subject:Re: Korg CX3 Problem

More than likely, the ribbon cable that connects between the keybed and
the mainboard has come loose, or the contacts corroded. All modern
keyboards use a scanned matrix for detecting key presses, and the fact
that an adjacent row isn't working lends credit to this theory. The
new-era Korg BX-3/CX-3 are notorious for having strange problems that
all return back to proper seating of the connectors.

Getting to the top side (mainboard) is probably the easier of the two
areas. There are a lot of screws to remove (25? 30?), because the top
case, trim panel, control strip (with the buttons and knobs), and
drawbar assemblies have to be removed first. This will also require
disconnecting 4-5 ribbon cables; keep track of which one is which. It
may be hard to tell which cable is going to the keybed, but if you
simply remove and reseat all of them, your problems may go away. Make
sure the organ is unplugged from the AC while you're messing around
inside, observe anti-static precautions. (The simplest approach is to
work in a room with wood floors in bare feet.)

Getting at the keybed side requires removing 12-14 screws on the bottom
side to free the keybed assembly, and *might* require removing some of
the top side, too. I can't remember. Either way, it's a fairly long
process. If any of this scares you off -- and it might -- then take it
to a local tech.
