I spoke with Steve on the phone one night about 1 or 2 in the morning on how I could wire my Speakeasy with a resistor and a headphone jack. I used it with a Nord Electro 2 and I couldn’t believe the difference. I believe Steve and I figured it had something to do with the preamp on the headphone output. I was very skeptical until I heard for myself…The only way I could describe it that it added a nice “sweet spot” to the sound. After the Speakeasy I ran into my Ventilator and man what a difference!!!! This basically kept from buying an E3…Of course now my clone of choice is the VB3 and have no intentions of switching. There’s a ballsy feel to the tone that I haven’t heard in anything else except maybe the real thing…YMMV…

Hi Bob

The headphone out has richer tones at a very low impedance. The Speakeasy Preamp works very well at this speaker level. Typ 8 ohms. The preamp is also setup for TRS cord sets. I found this out awhile ago. This concept seems to add 2 or 3 more dimensions to the overall sound........ Works great on pianos too

I operate my rig in Mono. I put the organ thru channel A of the Speakeasy. B channel is for my pianos. Both keyboards use the headphone out concept. I get a fantastic sound. This allows me to carry the least amount of gear. I am setup & playing is 10 to 15 minutes... I do use a small Peavey mixer & out to my power amp. One side goes to my 10" Pa speakers. The other goes to my Peavey SPA speaker. I use the crossover in the power amp. The 10's receive 150 HZ & up. The bass channel receives 150 HZ & down..

Hi All. Up until now I've run my two Rolands, a 300SX Stage Piano and a VR760 each in mono through my SpeakEasy 2 channel preamp into my Barbetta amp or directly into a PA. (With a Vent on the VR760).

Now I'm seriously working on following a number of our fellow clonewheelers on here into soft synths using MainStage to run MiniMonsta, VB3 and others.

The output from my MacBookPro will be stereo only.

What are my options for running either in 1) Mono or 2) Stereo?

In an offline discussion about mono, Bruce W suggested "..put each channel into a mixing board, pan them both to one side, and then mix the levels until they sound 'good.' Most of the time, the two channels won't have equal level, because that often leads to funny phase cancellations. I usually like one channel at 100%, and the other at 20-25%, but it's a personal thing."

But I'm now thinking I'd like to know all my options for both Mono and Stereo and I didn't want to take up more of Bruce's time, but wanted to get a range of options.

What can you suggest for options 1 & 2; Mono and stereo.

PS. I typically play smaller venues. Haven't played a place with a FOH yet.
