A7's were fine for the day but like most FOH of that gen, the
technology is too primitive by today's standards. A7's and the like aim
sound towards the walls, whereas arrays aim sound at the listener. Lots
of computerization involved with operating those. Perhaps Altec would
be on par with JBL today had their company survived intact but James
lost that and formed JBL. Altec was James' first company under his
name, but even his new company JBL had financial problems to where
Lansing died but left money to continue the company. Whatever is left
of Altec is something else.

The 'Altec' computer speakers are not the same company. They are
licensed.
