Subject:Re: OS--accompaniment tracks/ recording software question
For some time now I've been trying to decide whether to get into computer recording. Currently I have a Fostex VF 160 EX... a hard disc 16 channel 16 bit 44.1 kHz recorder, plus some outboard effects, preamps and so on. For what I do (rough song demos for songs later recorded as polished demos in another studio) and "new age noodling" type piano things which I copy to CD and sell locally, my setup seems fine. Still the Pro Tools, Cubase, etc. route is tempting, especially since I'm only recording in a 16 bit 44.1 kHz format. However I know a lot of that recording software has a pretty steep learning curve and I lean towards playing rather than recording engineering. Any thoughts?

Any DAW will do this .. You'll have to learn the program whether it is a
free one like Reaper or a paid for one like ProTools. Most $200 audio
interfaces come with software.
It's pretty easy to get into computer recording these days.
The Presonus unit comes with Studio One which seems to be a winner.
