Did someone say Champlin? Seen him play his Beer chop opening up for
Tower of Chester in '75. Seen Bill/Sons so many times in the 70's
mostly
with a B one time with a C I think. Still have all his/their albums
including some obscure solo things he did. Saw him as the Sons last
2003 without Terry, on
a B. Tallked with BIll and Geoff. Missed talking with Dave (my favorite
bass player) and James. Mick G. was with them on trumpet but
I missed him. But yeah the chop was bright and loud. And back then it
was all the rage but only for royalty. For seeing Bill in his heyday
(and its not over yet Bill, Bob who?)
many times with the real thing, the chop was not reacting to him the
way he controls a B or console.
There is something to having an overly bright and powerful Hammond rig.
Its almost like full speed on the mechanical bull. Easy to get thrown
off.

It may be that they're hiring back-line and are happy to get a clone.
I'd find it hard to watch Bill play anything but a real B but so it
goes.
They're also not in the big chips like they once were and I would I
imagine
some of that is due to saving money.
I met Bill in Tulsa many years ago when he had the Sons. GREAT GREAT
band
and people.
Amazing band.
He had a Bill Beer chop with one of those bazillion watt Leslies. That
thing was loud as hell.
