James,

I remember someone recommending a stand like this to me.. I think it might have been Ken Hall? I'm not sure if it was the K&M stand or another manufacturer who had a stand with a similar folding syle, but they were VERY happy with it, and it was highly recommended. Ken was that you?

I actually ended up getting a K+M stand but I have the 18810 model which I absolutely love, it's the sturdiest and perhaps the best quality stand I've ever had (and I've had a few), you can get a second tier for it, as well as a mic and music stand that will also attach to it. I have the second tier as well.

Personally, I generally sit to play, and I hate X-stands and/or any stand that isn't completely open underneath for legs and my foot pedals, neither do I like the Ultimates or Z style stands because they generally have feet and bars that interfere with where you might want to put your feet or your pedals (or bars that you bang your shins into).

As a result I am a fan of K&M 18810, I expect I would also like the 18880 folding style, AND I also like the Quiklok WS-550. But that's about it.. all other stands suck!!! Ok maybe not, but these are my personal preferences!
