Subject:Re: PC3 vs Kurz KB3
If all you're looking for is a controller to run VB3, the SP4 would probably be fine. However, it doesn't contain all of the KB3 capabilities--only a selection of them. It only has 128 patches, as opposed to over 1000 on the PC3, a limited selection of effects, and only 64-voice polyphony as opposed to 128 for the PC3, which can be an issue if you want to also use it for multi-timbral purposes. It has no on-board sequencer (not an issue for most people), and can't save data to a card. It has no front panel sliders/drawbars like the PC3. Its programmability is extremely limited, compared to the huge amount of programmability built into the PC3.
Again, if you're going to use it control some other source for organ sounds, or you only need to use it as a gigging keyboard and aren't too worried about having that many sounds available, it would probably be a great choice. But if you like the KB3 sounds, a PC3(x) variation is probably a better option. And you really find some great deals on PC3s these days. After negotiating tough with Sweetwater, I got my PC3 for much less than the cost of a SP4-8.
