Subject:My first gig with my Mojo
I just wrote an extensive review of my first gig with my new Mojo that was very long and detailed, and when I hit the preview I noticed a spelling mistake so I pressed the edit to fix the stupid f-ing spelling mistake, and the f-ing Yahoo when into f-ing LaLa f-ing land and never came back.. Lost my f-ing review... F... I been working on this f-ing review for an f-ing 45 hour! F.. next time I cut and past from word..
Ok so I'm going to net it out.. I feel sorry for all you poor bastards who don't have a Mojo.... end of review.
Seriously, my bandmates were gushing over the sound of the Mojo last night from beginning to end, and these guys know good hammond sound when they hear it! My gig rigs have ranged from real Hammonds with leslies to CX3/BX3, C1, Numa, C2 (with new C2D OS), and all of this with/without real leslies and speakeasy preamps and ventilators, etc. etc. and through all of these iterations, my band mates have NEVER gushed over my sound like they did last night over the Mojo.
Last night I got every sound I wanted out of the Mojo, warm and rich (like no other clone I've ever played), and sparkling, and ballsy... Even the overdrive, which I was a little unsure about, sounded great.. We performed 3 deep purple songs last night, Lazy, Woman from Tokyo, and Hush, and my God the Mojo sounded fantastic. Despite what I have said before about overdrive being useless on clones beyond the half way point.. I had the Mojo Overdrive at 9 o'clock for the DP tunes and it sounded fantastic.. very different in a loud live mix than sitting alone playing the mojo in my studio. In a loud mix the noise just got lost and all I heard was "release the beast" ballsy Hammond through a stack of Marshalls.
After last night I rate the MOJO as follows:
Overall tone - fantastic, rich, warm, sparkling, what ever you want
C/V - perfect
Percussion - perfect
Overdrive - great and surprisingly better than I initially thought
User interface - excellent for organ, OK as a controller for my Kronos
Keyboard - excellent feel (like the Nord C2 just a bit stiffer than the real thing)
Leslie sim - absolutely Ventilator quality
Regarding the leslie sim there was a couple of times last night were I looked down to see if I had the leslie switch in chorale or stuck on the middle (stopped), and I did this when I had no upper drawbars pulled out and this made me think that perhaps the low rotor animation wasn't quite as prounounced as it could or should be. I noticed the same thing on the new C2D 122 leslie sim, the low rotor animation wasn't quite as prounounced as I might have liked. However, very minor issue, and perhaps I just need to adjust the balance between the horn and the rotor.
One other minor complaint I might have has to do with visibility of the position of the knobs on the left side (volume, overdrive, keyclick etc).. in a dark bar it was difficult for me to see what position they were in.. my eyes are't great and I honestly couldn't tell, so between songs I turned a couple dials fully clockwise and counter-clockwise to understand and reposition things. A colour mark on the top of the knob, that stands out (flourescent?) would really help those of us who might choose to vary these settings throughout a performance. However, that is my only complaint, as the Mojo worked flawlessly for me last night..!
I don't think I have every received as much positive feedback as I did last night.. (I get lots of complements but last night I received 2-3 times as many as I usually get)..
Bottom line.. the Mojo is fantastic..
