The term 'sound engine' needs to be taken with a grain of salt. VASE
III is more of a technical approach to sound recording and playback than
a hard-and-fast piece of kit like a CPU or a ROM set. They may have
improved things a little over the years, but not enough that someone
would call it 'VASE IV.'

Also, going back to the engine analogy: it's possible to have say, two
Chrysler Hemi 426 engines with different levels of horsepower; or two
laptops that use the Intel i5 core, but produce different benchmark
scores. Some basic starting point, different end result.
