Rich,
I ended up ordering the Shure P4HW. Sweetwater has the Westone UM1 and UM2
backordered, but they are supposed to receive that shipment as early as
Thursday. I've been using Sweetwater for several years now and might pay a
little more, but I really like my sales rep, their return policy, free
shipping and support. I asked my rep to call me before shipping the
Westones because I'm on the fence between the UM1 single element, UM2 dual
element and potentially the molded earpiece like my ear plugs were until I
lost them. :-(

My rock band uses full IEM system, and it is heaven, no backline, no
feedback, almost always hear exactly what you want, mains never too loud
with a good soundman, and we can more easily fit 6 players on small stages.
I dont have a limiter in my setup but havent found it necessary.
For my other projects with usual backline, I use a small Behringer mixer,
with mics on whichever backline amps I need (or for ambient sound), and
mixing in whatever feeds I can get from the house, to get the IEM mix. A set
of shooting muffs helps to keep out the blaring guitar/ bass/ drum noise
when you get stuck in a bad place on stage. Looks silly, but I decided long
ago I wasnt going to tolerate ringing ears anymore.
I have several friends that like the higher end Westones, and also the Shure
series IEMs.
